Currency:
The Bahamian Dollar is on a par with the U.S. Dollar. Bahamian paper money can be found in half, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills. The square 15¢ coin, Quincentennial $1 bill and $3 bill make great souvenirs!
Customs:
US residents may take back up to $600 worth of duty free items if they stay longer than 48 hours. This exemption can only be claimed every 30 days. Restrictions apply on tabacco and liquors.
Dress:
In town and on the streer, cover-ups, slacks, shorts and sundresses are the order of the day. At night we suggest you dress it up a bit. Gentlemen may require jackets for some restaurants.

Postcards to the US, UK and Canada require a 40¢ stamp. Airmail letters cost 55¢ per half ounce to the US and Canada and 60¢ for Europe. Letters cost 45¢ per half ounce to the US and Canada, 50¢ for Europe.
Opening Hours:
Banks are open Mon-Thu from 9.30am to 3.00 or 4.00pm and 9am to 5pm on Fridays. Principal banks include The Royal Bank of Canada, Barclays, ScotiaBank and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
Taxes:
Departure tax leaving The Bahamas is $15 and payable at the airports. There is a Government Tax of 4%, a Resort Levy of 4% and a maid service charge on all hotel rooms in The Bahamas. Paradise Island Bridge toll is $2 for motorised vehicles and 25¢ for non motorized vehicles.
Tipping:
Standard gratuity for sevice, whether it be from a taxi driver or a waiter, is 15%. Some restaurants automatically add 15% to your bill. Ask your server if you are unsure whether service is included.
